John Dahms - Traditional Irish Fiddle Music Tutorial

John Dahms is a young Canadian with a serious commitment to traditional Irish fiddle music. In 2005 John competed at the All Ireland Finals in Co. Donegal for senior solo fiddle and then spent six weeks traveling in Ireland and playing with well-known Irish musicians.

John has wanted very much to share his knowledge of traditional Irish music and has recorded an interesting selection of tunes in the West Clare style, there are echos of the great master Bobby Casey, richly ornamented and with a driving rhythm and lift. This is the first commercially available recording of John Dahms playing.

The tunes are played at normal speed on the first half of the CD for easy listening and then they are played again slowly for learning and playing with the CD.

"The purpose of this CD is to create a bridge from the newer age Irish music to the older Irish music. It is designed for beginners and intermediate players. I chose six tunes, most of which I have learned from the exceptional players of West Clare. I intend this to be used for educational purposes. After studying this CD, I would recommend that you further your knowledge of the music." John Dahms

Jigs
Doctor O'Neill
The Gallowglass

Set Dances
Poll Halfpenny
Drunken Gauger

Reels
The College Groves
Mother's Delight

Purpose: Educational tutorial.

Applications: For melody instruments, such as fiddle, flute and tin whistle, this collection of tunes will prove valuable for study purposes.

For rhythm instruments, such as guitar and bodhran, the simplicity of the solo fiddle will provide ample material to practice accompaniment to Jigs, Set Dances (similar to Jigs) and Reels without the confusion of many instruments playing.

This is a solo fiddle recording of very high fidelity sound quality but it is live and not post processed in a studio.

This recording will undoubtably become a cult classic.

Price: $15 Cdn or $13 US (includes: shipping and applicable taxes)
